Tips for Finding Reliable Information on the Web
- Take Note of the URL. If it ends in .gov, it is most likely a reliable government site. If it is a .org, it is usually a non-profit organization. If the site ends in .edu, it is most likely an educational institution. Even with trustworthy URL's however, be mindful of possible agenda's or political biases.
- Take advantage of the advanced search feature when using your favorite search engine. You can specify to search within a site or domain (ex: .edu, .org and .gov). This helps to filter some nonsense when looking for reliable information.
